Our top 11 items that you MUST have in your Little Girls room

Redecorating your little girls room.... I'm not sure who has more fun with this, them or us! Quite often though this can be a daunting experience with so many options that just make us confused. We have put together a list of the top 11 items that we think will ensure you end up with a fun yet stylish room. (It was suposed to be 10 but I just couldn't cut it down!) Hopefully this list will help you when starting out. Remember to be organised and have a clear idea in your head. If having a theme, then start with your main item and branch out from here. If you are painting, be sure to take sample cards with you when picking out items such as doona covers, as you will be surprised just how many shades of pink there actually are out there! Above all, have fun and don't be afraid!

1. The Georgie Bed.

The Georgie bed is the ultimate little girls bed, sweet enough for a toddler, yet classic enough to last them into their teenage years! In classic white and featuring gorgeous bed knobs, this bed can be dressed up to suit nearly every little girl.

2. Trundle Bed

The Treehouse Trundle Bed is the ultimate in versatility. Designed to fit perfectly under all Treehouse Beds, it can be used as either an extra bed, or storage. (Not to mention stopping the kids from throwing things under the bed!) Tucked away when not in use it easily slides out for all those sleepovers.

3. Wool Doona

If you are looking for versatility and warmth for your child's Doona Inner, then look no further. The Treehouse Wool Doona features a unique 2 quilts in one. Made from 100% Australian Dorset Down New Wool, it has a summer quilt that is 200GSM, a spring and Autumn quilt that is 300GSM, and then snap them together over winter for a brilliantly toasty 500GSM quilt! The outer cover is 100% cotton, and features full machine quilting to ensure against that annoying bunching you sometimes get with inferior products. This is a quilt designed to last and last and to keep your little one warm on even the coldest of nights.

4. Doona Cover

The Doona Cover you choose will be one of the hardest decisions to make. It tends to be the most eye catching part of the room, so do you homework here and think carefully. Ask yourself some questions. What is the colour of the walls? How long do I want this to last? Will my daughter grow out of the design quickly? Do I want it to be reversible with a second "look"? What look am I trying to achieve? And most importantly, will my daughter like it? Consider the fabric that it is made of and whether your child has any allergies that need to be considered. All Treehouse linen is 100% cotton and pre washed for your convenience. We feature 3 gorgeous girls prints and all our doona covers are reversible.

5. Toy Barrel

I think a Toy Barrel is essential for one of two reasons. 1. If you child is young they are sensational for keeping toys neat and tidy in a stylish way. 2. For older children that may not have need for a toy barrel they can be used as a laundry hamper ensuring dirty clothes are no longer left on the floor! We have three girls designs available and can also custom make these in any of our treehouse fabrics. A must when considering a tidy bedroom!

6. Bedside Table

The Georgie Bedside Table is designed to match in with the Georgie Bed. With gorgeous little round feet and a single shelf on the inside, it is perfect for keeping all those knick knacks that little girls accumulate! The shelf can be easily height adjusted inside, and we also have to other feet options for this Bedside Table at no added cost! The Georgie Bedside Table is ideal for storing books and girly treasures!

7. Table Lamp

So now that you have the bedside table full of books for your little one to read, you are going to need a lamp! My favourite is the Rouge Hanging Lamp. This lamp looks great in bedrooms of all designs and will just last and last through the years! Featuring 2 layers of hanging flowers it is simply beautiful. It has a switch on the power cord enabling little fingers to easily turn on and off without having to get anywhere near the globe. Being white, it will match in with all colours making decorating easy!

8. Art Hanger

Need I say more! We all know just how much art work our kids bring home from school! Not to even  mention certificates and awards, and there is only so much room left on the fridge! Adding a custom made art hanger to your child's bedroom is a sure way to delight. These are available in 3 sizes, small, large and large with 2 strings. There is a large range of colours to choose from and you are free to choose what you want the words to say. You could choose their name, a title, or even an inspirational word. Use your own creativity to make it special. For older children these are fabulous for displaying photographs and invitations.

What child doesn't love seeing there name up on the wall! These spectacular custom made letters are available in even the most uncommon name! With 12 colours to choose from and also a beautiful mirrored finish they are sure to add a personal touch. They come in 3 different designs, Script, Classic and Individual, with the Classic and Individual letters also available in 2 sizes. These are perfect for walls, doors, cupboards, toyboxes, beds and much more.

10. Children's Desk

If you have the room in your child's bedroom then you should absolutely consider buying a good quality desk. With children now getting homework from kindergarten until they finish, there is no question that it will be useful! The Tashi desk has two drawers and is large enough that two chairs can sit side by side, making it ideal for tutoring or when Mum or  Dad need to help out!

And last on the list but certainly not least are wall stickers. Wall stickers have become ever so popular over the last few years for there ability to transform a room without making too much of a hole in your budget! Available in so so many designs, the photos above are just a small taste of what is out there. Look for ones that are nice and thick and sold as removeable and reusable. We sell 2 brands of wall stickers, For Walls and Little Chipipi. Both are a high quality sticker that is capable of multiple moves.

Autism Awareness Day

Yesterday was Autism Awareness Day, and although I knew it was coming up, life got in the way (as it does) and I forgot. Until my 12 year old daughter came home and reminded me. She started by asking me if I knew it was Autism Awareness Day and what it meant? I said I did and asked her what she knew about it. She said that one of the boys in her class was autistic and that he was the bravest person she knows. When I asked her why, she said that he had bought blue cupcakes in to celebrate the day, spoke to the class about what Autism was and also answered questions. She said he talked about his family, his diagnosis and how it affected him. He told the class that the Opera House would be lit up in blue light as a show of support. My daughter was so impressed, and said to me, "mum, I could never have been so brave as to stand up and talk about my dyslexia". I hope that this young boys bravery and ability to stand up and be counted never disappears, and I hope it has inspired my daughter somewhat to continue to accept people for who they are. Autism Awareness Day is about raising awareness and increasing understanding, and what better place to start than our schools.
